The Gambling Commission CEO, Andrew Rhodes, gave his annual speech at ICE again this year and made repeated reference to ‘balance’.

Quotes included;

‘When it comes to getting the balance right, the White Paper makes clear there is work to do, in terms of preventing gambling harms and minimising risk. But neither does it radically shut down industry’s ability to innovate or to compete with each other’ and;

‘What’s good for everyone is when you are able to navigate to calmer waters and find the right balance’.

Given the nature of the UK market over recent years, it will be interesting to see if there is any notable change to the Commissions approach moving forward as they aim to move towards a steadily more collaborative relationship with the industry.

Andrew Rhodes also stated that we can expect to see the Gambling Commission publishing the next steps on the Financial Risk Checks related consultation in the coming weeks.
