Today, the Gambling Commission have announced that Chief Executive, Andrew Rhodes, has made the decision to leave the Commission to take on a new Role. Rhodes is set to make his leave on the 30th of April 2026 after almost five years in post, leading significant changes to the regulator and its approach to the industry.

The article on the GC website stated Rhodes’ time with the commission focused on consumer protection and the delivery of the Gambling Act Review, including the introduction of financial vulnerability checks, reducing the intensity of online games, and banning potentially harmful marketing offers. To further this, he also administered the implementation of the Fourth National Lottery licence.

On this Rhodes said, “It has been a privilege to lead the Gambling Commission through such an important period of change. I am proud of the progress we have made to strengthen regulation, improve consumer protections, and ensure gambling is safer and fairer. I leave with confidence in the organisation, its people, and the work still to come.”

Further commenting in his post on Linkedin: “It has never, ever been dull… I feel lucky to have worked with some really brilliant people doing important work in a fascinating sector with lots of complex challenges. I’m very sad to be leaving but I also think a whisker under 5 years is about the right time for me personally”

With Charles Counsell, Interim Chair of the Gambling Commission, adding “Andrew has provided outstanding leadership for nearly five years and leaves a strong legacy. He has led the Commission through major reform, strengthened our regulatory approach, and ensured consumer protection has remained at the heart of our work. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Andrew for his dedication and wish him every success in the future.”

In line with Andrew Rhodes leave the commission will begin the process of recruiting a Chief Executive for an interim period with Deputy Chief Executive, Sarah Gardner, stepping up as Acting Chief Executive to cover areas that Andrew will step back from during the transitional period.

On behalf of Luke ARC and the full team, we would like to thank Andrew Rhodes for his service and wish him all the best in the next chapter!
